Plug-in hybrid ute — included for completeness despite breaking with the diesel norm of the segment. 1.5L turbo petrol plus two electric motors gives 321kW combined and a genuine 5.7-second 0-100 (fastest ute on the Australian market by some margin). V2L (vehicle-to-load) output runs tools and camping gear directly. The catch: only 2500kg braked tow rating — not suitable for caravans or heavy trailers. Hybrid battery longevity in Australian heat and ute duty cycles is unproven. Tow rating issue alone disqualifies it for many traditional ute buyers.
