lowFront end / steering and suspension wear

Look for: Ball joints, tie-rod ends, wheel bearings and bushes wear with km, load and 4WD use, giving vague steering and clunks.

If you find it: Standard front-end refresh; do bearings, joints and bushes together.

lowClutch and driveline wear (worked utes)

Look for: Hard-worked utes wear clutches, and 4WD examples wear hubs, CVs and uni joints, especially if used off-road or for towing.

If you find it: Clutch replacement; service/replace hubs, CVs and uni joints as needed.

lowTired interior / electrical age faults

Look for: These are old, hard-used vehicles; expect cracked dashes, worn seats, intermittent gauges, switches and wiring faults.

If you find it: Source secondhand trim; chase down wiring/earth faults individually.

lowGlow plug wear

Look for: Owners report these engines going through glow plugs, causing hard cold starting.

If you find it: Replace the glow plug set; check the glow relay and wiring.

Look for: Not a fault, but 14-17 L/100km loaded is the reality of a 4.0 V6 in a ute.

If you find it: Accept the fuel bill or consider LPG; the V6 suits gas conversion.
