Look for: As work utes, clutches wear out; slipping under load or a heavy/grabby pedal are common on high-km examples.

If you find it: Clutch kit and machined/replaced flywheel; renew the spigot bearing and rear main seal while in there.

lowElectrical gremlins and tired ancillaries

Look for: Old wiring, earth points, window/lock motors, gauges and lighting play up with age; perished hoses, bushes and mounts are expected on cars this old.

If you find it: Clean and refresh earths and connectors, replace failed motors/switches, budget a general consumables refresh on purchase.

Look for: Early carburetted F2 engines run rough, flat-spot or stall as the carb wears, jets gum up and the auto-choke ages. Hard hot starts and poor idle are common on neglected examples.

If you find it: Carburettor rebuild/clean and tune by someone familiar with older Mazdas; fresh fuel lines and filter.
