The chain-driven cams are durable, but the chain and tensioner are the main wear points with age and neglected oil changes, eventually causing rattle on start-up and timing slop.
Fix: Replace chain, guides and tensioner during a major service; keep up with quality oil changes.

The rocker cover gaskets degrade and oil drips onto the alternator below, causing premature alternator electrical failure.

Hydraulic lifters become noisy or sticky from oil sludge buildup, producing a prominent tapping noise from the top end at cold start that may persist.
