Oil cooler internal failure
The engine oil cooler is mounted in the coolant jacket and can develop internal corrosion over time, mixing oil into the coolant or coolant into the oil. Symptoms: milky oil on the dipstick, oil film floating on coolant in the overflow bottle, or sudden coolant loss.
Fix: Replace the oil cooler element with a new OEM or aftermarket unit, then flush both the oil and coolant systems thoroughly.

Mechanical injection pump leaks
The Bosch VE rotary injection pump can develop internal seal leaks at the shaft or top cover over high mileage, causing hard starting, fuel weep onto the block, or a noticeable loss of power.

The electronic diesel control unit (EDU) mounted near the pump suffers from heat-cracked solder joints over time, causing intermittent stalling or a sudden no-start. Common Denso common-rail era issue.
Fix: Replace or rebuild the EDU module through an auto electrical specialist. Some shops re-flow the solder joints as a cheaper fix.
